The effectiveness of teaching preventive skills based on religious beliefs on resiliency and emotional, social and educational compatibility of high school students at risk of drug abuse

Abstract Objectives: The present study was conducted with the aim to investigate the effective amount of teaching skills based on religious beliefs on resiliency and emotional, social and educational compatibility of high school sophomore students at risk of drug abuse. Methodology: The research method was a field testing with devising pretest-posttest for the control group. The statistical population of the study consisted of all students at risk of drug abuse in the second grade of high school in Ahvaz who had been studying in the academic year of 2017-2018. The sample size contained 80 students who were selected by cluster random sampling method and they were randomly assigned to experimental (40 persons) and control (40 persons) groups. The experimental group received 17 training sessions on preventive skills based on religious beliefs. In order to collect the data, the Conner-Davidson Flexibility Scale (CD-RISC) and the Sinha & Singh High School Student Compatibility  Questionnaire were used in two stages: pre-test and post-test. Findings: The results showed that there is a significant difference in the variables of resiliency, emotional, social, educational compatibility between the experimental and control groups at the post-test stage. Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, it can be concluded that teaching preventive skills based on religious beliefs on resiliency and emotional, social, and educational compatibility of students at risk of drug abuse is effective and could be applied as an appropriate preventive intervention method
